You now have another reason to visit the much-adored Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo: the adorable Gentoo penguins! Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo is home to a total of 16 beautiful Gentoo penguins – 8 male, 8 female.

Penguin Encounter

With temperatures maintained at 2 to 4 degree Celsius throughout, this purpose-built facility is one of the region’s ultimate attractions for penguin lovers. This not only lets you catch up with penguins, but also gives you the rare chance to know all about these fascinating residents, from its playful antics and sensitive personality to how they are cared for in this setting that painstakingly replicates its natural Sub-Antarctic habitat. Besides several amazing segments that make them feel at home (including a slide and the pool), there is even a unique lighting system that mimics the penguins’ annual light cycle.

Aquarium Tank

The Aquarium Tank is the first thing you’ll see before entering the Aquarium. It is one of the world’s largest suspended aquariums and holds 10-million-liters. Home to 300 sharks and rays, this tank gives visitors an idea of the adventures the aquarium holds inside. Many people take pictures at the Aquarium Tank because you can see it from outside the Aquarium for free.

Aquarium Tunnel

Want to know what it’d be like to walk on the ocean beds as the marine animals swim peacefully above you? That is what the Aquarium Tunnel gives you. Walk through a 48-meter-long aquarium tunnel that lets you explore the diversity of marine species that inhabit the open ocean. If you’re lucky, you might even see divers feeding sharks and rays.

Underwater Zoo

Once you’re outside the tunnel, take the escalator up to the 2nd floor, where the Underwater Zoo awaits you. You’ll find 40 displays of aquatic animals: from seahorses to crocodiles, you’ll see them all! As you enter, you’ll be asked to pose for a photograph with an underwater background. Proceed further inside, where the Underwater Zoo splits into three zones: Rainforest, Rocky Shore and Living Ocean.

Rocky Shore:When land meets the sea, you’ll find a tough terrain, suitable only for the tough to survive and thrive. It is a harsh environment, and if you’re up for it, reach out and feel some of the harder rock pool inhabitants of the rocky shore!

Rainforest:Ever wondered about the animals that live in a rainforest? Picture yourself walking through the banks of a river bed that houses the world’s most stunning freshwater animals ever: from the playful otter to the dangerous piranha, you’ll see them all.

Living Ocean:Similar to the actual sea, the Living Ocean displays animals of the deep sea. Look out for Sea Dragons, Sea Jellies, and some deadly fish.

By Metro:

• The closest Metro station is Burj Khalifa/ Dubai Mall Metro Station. It’s a 15 minute walk from the metro station (inside a fully air-conditioned Metro link bridge with a moving walkway) to the mall. Board line MRed to get here.

By Bus:

• Closest bus stop is The Dubai Mall, a 2-minute walk to the mall.

• Buses 27, 28, 29, 50, and more will bring you here.

• Children under 15 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.

• Pregnant ladies or Children below 2 years are not allowed in glass boats.
